Meet Mindy

Known from my 5 year gig on Home + Garden Television, HGTV, I live + work in New York City designing beautifully comfortable homes.

Exposed to the high + low as seen through the eyes of my Clients + Vendors, I'm extremely fortunate to be invited into their private spaces. Constantly reminded of how our surroundings are so uniquely personal + affect us so profoundly, fuels the passion for my creativity.  Living with style can be easily attained with the guidance of a trained eye + resourceful approachable Designer.

As a boutique firm, we are available to work with you one-on-one either in person or remotely via the phone/web. I offer many levels of interior design, renovation, project management, purchasing + consultation services.  Please visit my firm's website for a formal introduction.

Here on my Blog, I offer a casual insight into the New York City Interior Design scene.  Parties ~ product launches ~ trade only events ~ charity happenings ~ etc.  You're invited to subscribe to our musings + follow at your choice of design venues listed below.

As always you are invited to call or email me directly with any design questions.

Appreciate you stopping by today ~m

Porcelain by Lladro: Re-Discovered

My taste for possessions, has evolved.

When I was younger, I collected what I could afford at flea markets + fell in love with objects: glass, leather, copper or aluminum. Anything under $20 was great, under $10 better. Shopping was the passion; coming home with something new, the prize. I learned the love of things from my Mom.

IF IT'S MARCH, IT MUST BE AQUAMARINE

If you can picture the cerulean blue waters of the Mediterranean, you will understand why the birthstone for March is named Aquamarine.  Derived from the Roman word "Aqua," meaning water +"mare," meaning sea, this pale blue gem does indeed resemble the color of the cerulean blue waters of the Mediterranean, or the famous Tiffany blue.

WINTER'S LIST

The original phrase, has its origins with the constellations Leo the Lion + Aries the Lamb.

It's based on the relative positions of these constellations in the sky at the beginning + end of the month.

The weather is traditionally wild at the beginning of March but fair by the end {good to know we are on-track}.

The reverse is also true - when March comes in like a Lamb, it goes out with a ROAR!

Now is the time of year to write down  your, "Winter's-To-Do-With-Your-Home"  List.

THE VALUE OF VINTAGE

Since my college days, I've been fascinated with vintage clothing.

Yep, a tad quirky, but always interesting + artsy.

COUTURE CHOCOLATES: A TASTING MENU

A love seat is a wide chair.

It was first made to sit a lady + her wide dress. Later the love seat, or courting seat, had 2 sections, usually in an S shape. Intended for the couple to sit together, but not too closely.

THE POWER OF THE FLOWER

It's a lovely gesture to have  fresh flowers in your home - let's say every Friday?

Basic rules of thumb:

-One type of flower in one color, per container
-No color mixing unless you are a pro
-Cut down the stems to fit nicely in your vessel (not pretty to see too much stem popping out)
-A little fussing is appropriate

IF IT'S JANUARY, IT MUST BE GARNET

Garnet is the official birthstone for January, as adopted by the American National Association of Jewelers in 1912.

It's also a stunning color for decorating.

Above is the famous picture of Diana Vreeland in her Park Ave apartment, designed by Billy Baldwin.

WHAT'S YOUR CLAN?

A) Menzies B) Gordon C) Malcolm D) Stewart E) Mackenzie F) MacLeod G) Black Watch H) Buchanan

Technically a "tartan pattern" is made up  of perfect squares, so it can be turned 180 degrees or upside-down + look exactly the same. A plaid, on the other hand, can have stripes that clearly run in a specific direction.
