The Easter Parade: Re-Cap 2011
"In your Easter bonnet, with all the frills upon it You'll be the grandest fella in the Easter parade. I'll be all in clover, and when they look us over We'll be the proudest couple in the Easter parade....
On the avenue, Fifth Avenue, The photographers will snap us And you'll find that you're in the rotogravure.
Oh, I could write a sonnet About your Easter bonnet And of the girl I'm taking to the Easter Parade".
~Irving Berlin 1948~
The man in blue is Bill Cunningham. You want him to snap a photo of you. Known for his chronicles of ordinary fashionably dressed folks, his column has graced the pages of The New York Times, for over 50 years. He really does make people famous... for more than just 15 minutes.
On this overcast afternoon, I rushed to the Parade after a Client meeting. I knew that my long time friend Anne was going strolling, in period costume, but we hadn't planned on meeting up. I was late to arrive + was relieved the festivities were still going strong.
After 5 minutes of being there, I turned around, low + behold, there was Anne! I made a surprised girly fuss equal to her girly garb.
What are the odds of Bill Cunningham getting ready to shoot her photo just at that same exact moment I spotted her?
Yep that's exactly what happened. I chased him away.
Anne, I owe you your 15 minutes plus.
Tally-ho!
