Protein Powder Perfection

If you haven't seen me lately, there is a lot less of me to see.
Protein Powder Shakes have changed my life.

Breakfast is almost a religious experience.

1 cup cold H20

3 ice cubes

1/2 scoop cold Protein Powder

1 bruised banana

Hamilton Beach Ice Chopping Blender $20

You can get creative with adding berries, melon +  yogurt, but I prefer to not to think sometimes.  Keep it simple.

Why?

Last summer I started morning walks.  There is a farm, complete with animals that I frequent. The concept of eating these cute creatures repulsed me so much...I became a vegetarian. I know there are fancy names for those who don't eat meat, but eat cheese + eggs. I don't know what my official title is, but it really doesn't matter much anyway.

When I saw the interviews with the trim Bill Clinton explaining  his new eating routine, I really listened-up. He has his protein in a shake, in the morning!

One daily nutrition necessity is to get the proper dose of protein - about 40+ grams/day. Some non-meat protein options are just not easy to take. Dry beans or tuna -  just too chalky to get down all the time. A lot of fat is kinda necessary to make the old standbys even partially palatable, I'm already taking Zetia.

The traditional vegetarian concoctions have absolutely no appeal to me either - too earthy + way too time consuming to prepare. The only way a new eating routine was going to work for me, was to keep it simple, really simple.

Enter Protein Powder...

At 110 Calories per scoop, luscious vanilla flavor, it works like a charm. With my new blender, I whip-up a Martha Stewart type picture-perfect shake and clean-up, in less than a minute.

Go into any gym or health food store + you will see the shelves lined floor to ceiling with these big tubs of this type stuff.  This macho man aesthetic is not my thing + I tend to be a little suspicious of health food store stuff in general, but if  it was good enough for Mr. Clinton, it was worth a look.  (I actually had a single serving package in the back of one of my kitchen cabinets for well over a year - then it sat on my shelf for another few months).

Jay Robb Vanilla Whey Protein

This is the stuff I love.

Certainly healthful eating requires a balance of all food groups + more protein daily than just what this powder offers, but the awesome result of my new breakfast is that I am not really hungry. I intellectually know that for breakfast I've had half my protein needs for the day + carbs to fuel my brain.  I'm good.

Bye-bye roller coaster ride that I had with typical breakfasts of oatmeal or toast or other cereals.  Hungry in an hour.  I used to have chicken in my salad at lunch, thinking I was eating properly. Actually, it was a given that my energy level would crash right after lunch...not any more.

Exercise + not relying on carbs to make it through the day, rounds out the routine. A later lunch is also the ticket.  It's actually very, very easy...liberating.

Remember the post about my new Dahon fold-up bicycle? I do ride to the market to get bananas - for my shakes.

Bike, run, walk or drive to your local store to get some of this stuff. My success has inspired at least 4 others to loose 18 lbs. each, this summer.

A Client, who is from California, told me her brother has 2 of these a day. Her tip: Keep the powder in the freezer.  Thanks Gena.  Yep, colder is better! Maybe this is more of a West Coast thing?

The strawberry on top of the protein powder shake? I was able to fit into the jeans I wore on my first episode on HGTV, years ago! Those Lucky Jeans are actually baggy now. Why do I still have them in my closet?"  That's another story.

Just wanted to share, since everyone I haven't seen in a couple months, is asking. Promise to get back to design tips next post.

Happy Saturday,

mmg

Looking Ahead: I am fortunate enough to be one of the bloggers invited by Brizo to attend the Jayson Wu Fashion Show! I have always wanted to attend a show in the tents! Keep you posted.
