Picture Perfect
Gallery wall displays are a great opportunity to incorporate the patchwork images of your life, into your present decor. Enter family + friends, travels, heirlooms, labels, napkins, whatever....
I often get asked how to group art?
Q: Should the frames match?
Q: Should the sizes be identical?
Q: Where do the important, but odd-ball pieces go?
My favorite method is illustrated in these first few homes: leaning ledges. Simple to rotate, no need for permanent holes in your walls + most importantly, the pieces organically get placed. Items of the moment take front + center stage, while past obsessions file to the back. If the your space doesn't allow for the width of a ledge, thoughtful wall display placements are the ticket. Don't forget to throw in your favorite record album covers - as we know they are filled with vivid memories.
The images are artfully placed on a wall. But the negative space is also quite compelling. Below we see a charcoal painted + then a stripped papered wall. Almost all of the other homes have simple white walls - which are not so vanilla at all.
An eclectic mix, as seen directly below in Kate Spade's home, can look consistent even though the frames + mediums are different. Oil painting, pencil sketches + prints hang side-by-side elegantly.
