Not a Fan...
Truth be told that I am not a fan of....ceiling fans.
Not a feng shui fan~atic (ha), but it's a tad uncomfortable to have revolving blades above my head.
However I do have clients that can't sleep well w/o one, so my search began.
It's a breath of fresh air that the design departments of the fan manufacturers have not been asleep.
Innovative products are available to create high tech wind.
Most units are available in a multitude of metal colors - even the hipper bronze rubbed finish.
Although I do prefer the unit to blend into the ceiling, rather than create a dark statement.
A bit technical: some have light kits, some have folding blades. Some move in an orbit type motion, some mount to a wall.
Aside from a remote control, most can be hot wired to your wall switch + integrated into your smart house.
For the gadget geeks, many of the manufacturer's websites will show a video of exactly how the air gets circulated.
The first fixtue shown looks like Zen candles + could easily be found in a hip restaurant.
But it's actually a fan with recessed blades.
A big bonus is the down lighting.
Surprise ~ there are blades that circulate air, hidden in the drum. Nice!
Love this one w plexi blades. Clearly modern.
Always have liked this one since I saw it years ago. Has fabric panels laced around the blades. Kind of nautical.
Pretty glass.
Another pretty light.
For the outdoors.
Industrial looking fixture is actually called a "Fandolier".
Theatrical.
Mod.
Sleek.

This post wouldn't be complete w/o me showing you some cool table fans.
Leave it to Dyson to re-invent the wheel table fan.
A blade-free version. No small fingers can get caught.
All retro inspired. Looks like you picked 'em up at a swap meet.
Blue one also comes in white /red /chrome or black. Can't decide.
Floor standing looks like an architectural tool.
So there is no need to sweat it out.
Have a fan-tastic summer.
Keep cool + dream on.

So glad a designer like you can appreciate the design choices we make here at Casablanca! We take pride in the craftsmanship and design that goes into each one of our fans and we’re excited to announce that now the design doesn't have to stop at us. We just launched www.customcasablanca.com where consumers and designers alike can utilize our one-of-a-kind fan builder to create their dream fan. As an experienced design professional, we’d love for you to take a look and let us know what you think. Thanks!
You posted a nice collection of fans. I agree, not a "fan"atic either but their function is important in many spaces. (reminds me of my feeling about recliners...I see another blog post in the future) We designers do a great job of finding the right product that has beauty and function; keep up the good work!
Wishing you a brightly colored day,
Mary Nolte

I'm with you...or at least I was with you until I moved from NYC to AZ. It's not just hot here, it's like an oven. And today, it's made doubly worse because we're in the middle of Monsoon season. I find that in order to circulate air conditioning to its maximum effect, we have to use ceiling fans, and like your clients, many of ours cannot sleep without the constant of air lightly brushing against their bodies. Like you, I've found that most ceiling fan design can be, well, hideous. Add to that bad design down lights that are "cut" by the fan blades and you've got the making for a horror house.
Thanks for showing these stylish alternatives---perfect for home, office, or a hospitality setting---that combat the "uglies" and give fresh air to ceiling fans!
Thanks!
