Cord: Out-of-Control
My biggest pet peeve when it comes to sleek technology in home design, is Cord Out-of-Control.
Easy plug-in strips are essential, but why do I have to see them?
My go-to resource for planning wall units that incorporate lots of electronics, are closet design companies. Experts at maximizing small, inconvenient spaces to the fraction of an inch, they have proven to be well skilled in the organization department. One of my reliable favorites is California Closets. With lots of new finishes available, the look + feel of the furniture can enhance any room's design aesthetic. Flexibility being key, the shelves can be raised or lowed as your technology evolves - which usually means the TV's get bigger but thinner + the components become more compact.
One could compare the behind the scenes of a sleek looking entertainment unit with the backstage at a theatric play: it's a calm cool collected look from the audience, but bundles of electrical wires live behind the velvet curtain. With every component being a necessary - even this low tech gal knows that - easy to access essentials for cable hook-ups, blue-ray players, plugs for woofers + other assorted guy-type tech stuff, is super important.
From my point-of-view, if it looks great, is neatly organized + I can easily plug in my mini iPad to charge {without making the tv picture or music stop}, I'm a happy camper.
