BLACK/WHITE SWAN
Any movie with scenes of NYC gets my vote.
Taking place in Lincoln Center, even better.
If you like any of the reality shows like Project Runway, Top Chef or American Idol, chances are you like a peak at the behind-the- scenes competition + pressures in a creative environment. Having spent many years in art school + the other part of my life hearing about my brother's audition experiences at Julliard, this film hits home. Truly a dark film, Natalie Portman's innocence colors the film acceptable. Oh, did I mention she's from LI? Reminiscent of another locally shot masked film, "Eye's Wide Shut", I couldn't help but see the parallels.
Not limited to the performing arts, the film portrays the struggles encountered pursuing the passion to be perfect.
